John Allen

John concentrates his practice on the defense of various environmental, maritime, product liability, and personal injury claims. Before joining Fox Galvin, John was an in-house attorney for a Fortune 500 company. John represented that company in a variety of lawsuits throughout the country, and he advised the company on various transactional and environmental issues. John has significant experience in all phases of litigation, including trial experience. His experience includes:

obtaining a jury verdict for $113,000 (more than $1.2 million less than the plaintiffs demanded) in a truck accident case in which the four plaintiffs were seriously injured and liability was admitted;
obtaining dismissal of a breach of contract case against a cruise line company based on a forum selection clause in the ticket contract;
negotiating favorable settlements after extensive discovery and motion practice in a number of maritime cases involving personal injury and property damage;
successfully representing a major oil refiner in a CERCLA contribution action involving the investigation and remediation of a former oil refinery site listed on the National Priority List;
obtaining summary judgment in several retaliation and national origin discrimination lawsuits filed against his client in federal court;
obtaining dismissal of his client in a number of consumer protection cases;
working with a team of lawyers to defeat class certification in a case filed against his client under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act; and
playing an active role in the remediation of several properties contaminated by PCE, coordinating with various consultants and other attorneys throughout the country

Currently, John is licensed to practice in Illinois and Missouri. He has written articles on various maritime and environmental issues, and he has spoken at seminars on a variety of topics in these and other areas.
