Biography:
Jon Garside has achieved significant success in the trial and appeal
of complex cases. He concentrates his practice on the defense of product
liability, class action, medical malpractice, and commercial lawsuits.
He has first-chaired several cases to defense verdicts, disposing of
many more on pretrial motions. Jon has also successfully argued appeals
in both state and federal courts.
In the area of product liability, Jon has successfully defended manufacturers of:
- Pharmaceuticals
- Vaccines
- Medical devices
- Blood products
- Automobiles and trucks
- Industrial equipment
- Farm equipment
- Petroleum products
- Airplanes
Jon has also developed a reputation in the fast-developing area of class actions, defending and obtaining favorable results for, among others:
- An association of major health insurers
- A nationally-known hospital
- A major manufacturer of generic medicines
- A major manufacturer of prescription medicines
In addition, Jon has handled a variety of commercial litigation matters, defending a health insurer against multimillion-dollar claims of fraud and obtaining a dismissal in favor of a large state employee retirement fund in a federal court contract case. Also, Jon frequently defends hospitals, doctors, and other health care providers against claims of malpractice, and recently obtained a defense verdict in the City of St. Louis in favor of a nationally known hospital.
