Biography:
Katherine Fowler is a partner at Fox Galvin, specializing in the defense of complex litigation, including pharmaceutical litigation, product liability defense, labor and employment law, personal injury litigation, commercial litigation, First Amendment law, environmental litigation, and class action litigation. She has significant experience in developing creative and effective legal strategies, engaging in motion practice involving complex legal and factual issues, presenting oral argument before state and federal courts, representing clients in mediation and arbitration, and deposing and evaluating fact and expert witnesses. She also has first and second chair trial experience.

Prior to joining Fox Galvin, Ms. Fowler worked as an associate in the litigation department of a large regional law firm. She also served as the City attorney for the City of Kirkwood Board of Adjustment and City of Crestwood Board of Adjustment. In this role, she was responsible for introducing evidence at the hearings, including examining and cross-examining witnesses, resolving legal issues relative to zoning matters, and defending zoning appeals.

Since joining Fox Galvin, Ms. Fowler has:

  • Recently obtained dismissal of a case brought under the Missouri Human Rights Act.
  • Obtained a directed verdict in a medical malpractice case brought against a hospital on day eight of a jury trial.
  • Favorably resolved commercial lease litigation on behalf of commercial landlords.
  • Recently obtained a judgment in excess of $100,000 on behalf of a commercial landlord.
  • Negotiated a favorable settlement of a shareholder’s lawsuit alleging wrongful conversion of stock during the cash and share elections conducted in connection with a corporate merger.
  • Second-chaired a medical malpractice case to a defense verdict in the City of St. Louis.
  • In 2007, Ms. Fowler second-chaired a Missouri Merchandising Practices Act case to a defense verdict in St. Louis County.
  • Assisted in the defense of Bayer Corporation (including related domestic and foreign entities) in the Magnevist litigation, Trasylol litigation, and In re Genetically Modified Rice
    litigation.
  • Negotiated a favorable settlement on behalf of an international agricultural company in a multi-million dollar environmental case with potentially high exposure.

Ms. Fowler is licensed to practice in Missouri and Illinois. She is also licensed to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. She received her law degree from St. Louis University School of Law (cum laude, Order of the Woolsack), and her undergraduate degree from University of Dayton (cum laude).

Ms. Fowler is President of the Board of Directors of Let's Start, a non-profit organization which aims to break the cycle of incarceration in families by using the personal experiences of its participants to support recovery, educate the community, and inform policy. In addition to her role as President of the Board, Ms. Fowler created a legal clinic which offers pro bono legal services to participants of Let’s Start.
