Richard has worked in both private practice and in the legal department of a Fortune 500 company headquartered in the Midwest. Over his career, he has gained extensive experience in federal and state courts across the country in various types of litigation matters including real estate, professional malpractice, employment/wrongful discharge, products liability, toxic torts, and general personal injury cases. Some of his successful results include:
- After a bench trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, a $3.5 million judgment in an insurance coverage dispute arising out of an underlying wrongful death action;
- Dismissals and summary judgments in state and federal courts on various employment discrimination claims arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and their state law counterparts;
- Finding of non-liability for his client after a full evidentiary public hearing in a religious discrimination case prosecuted before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination;
- Summary judgment on a strict liability claim brought against a manufacturer of a food processing machine by a plaintiff who sustained catastrophic injuries while using the machine at his place of employment;
- Summary judgment (affirmed on appeal) on behalf of a large Midwest-based cable company which was sued after one of its employees sexually assaulted a customer of the company.
