Biography:
Richard has worked in both private practice and in the legal department of a Fortune 500 company headquartered in the Midwest. Over his career, he has gained extensive experience in federal and state courts across the country in various types of litigation matters including real estate, legal and medical malpractice, employment, products liability, toxic torts, and general personal injury cases. Some of his successful results include:

  • After a bench trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, a $3.5 million judgment in an insurance coverage dispute arising out of an underlying wrongful death action.
  • Dismissals and summary judgments in state and federal courts on various employment discrimination claims arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and their state law counterparts.
  • Finding of non-liability for his client after a full evidentiary public hearing in a religious discrimination case prosecuted before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.
  • Summary judgment (affirmed on appeal) on behalf of a large Midwest-based cable company which was sued after one of its employees sexually assaulted a customer of the company.
  • Dismissal of a $5 million legal malpractice and RICO claim brought against his client, affirmed on appeal by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Summary Judgment in favor of his lawyer client in a legal malpractice action where the plaintiff claimed well over $500,000 in damages.
  • Dismissal of his lawyer client in a breach of fiduciary duty claim arising out of the client’s role in an underlying probate proceeding.
  • Successful Jury Trial in car rear-end collision case in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois where, after admitting liability, the jury returned a verdict of $113,000, over $1,000,000 less than what the plaintiffs asked for.
